Clean Water And Sanitation

At SAFYI we strongly believe that access to clean water and sanitation is a fundamental human right and a key driver of social and economic development. However, many people around the world (and in Nigeria especially) still lack access to safe and affordable drinking water, adequate sanitation, and proper hygiene facilities, leading to a range of health, environmental, and economic challenges.

Our purpose is to ensure and promote availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all, with a focus on achieving universal and equitable access to safe and affordable drinking water. We understand there is an urgent need to end open defecation, provide access to sanitation and hygiene, and pay special attention to the needs of women and girls and those in vulnerable situations.

We also aim to improve water quality by reducing water pollution, eliminating dumping in water bodies, avoiding the use of untreated wastewater, and substantially promoting recycling and safe reuse in the community. By doing so, we can protect public health, preserve ecosystems, and promote sustainable economic development.

We endeavor to expand water and sanitation support to rural communities and provide international cooperation and capacity-building support to Nigeria in water- and sanitation-related activities and programmes, including wastewater treatment, recycling, and reuse technologies.

Moreover, we recognize the importance of local engagement in water and sanitation management, and we are working to support and strengthen the participation of local communities in improving water and sanitation management, we believe it is our collective responsibility. By doing so, we can ensure that water and sanitation services are sustainable, equitable, and responsive to the needs and priorities of the communities they serve.
